Facial Skin Peel Treatments: Your Top Questions Answered

Looking for a way to bring back that youthful glow? You may have heard about skin peel treatments and are wondering if this is the right option for you. You are not alone! Many men and women turn to facial peels to help rejuvenate their skin, but have plenty of questions before they decide if this treatment is right for them. In this blog post, we will answer your top questions about facial peel treatments so you can make an informed decision on whether it’s the best choice for your individual needs. Read on to learn more!

How often should I get a face peel?

Well that depends on a couple of factors – the first being your age. Generally speaking, in your 30’s you should only need a peel once a year. In your 40’s you might expect to do a face peel twice/year and in your 50’s once a quarter to help address the skin concerns you have throughout each decade. If your skin is in real need of rejuvenation, treatments can be performed a minimum of 12 weeks apart, which can be useful for individuals who have severely damaged skin from acne or smoking.

What are the different types of face peels?

Here at Skin from Within we use DMK’s Pro Alpha six-layer face peel protocol, which is an advanced peel treatment, perfect for rewinding the clock on your skin in just 10 days. Or you can opt for a Vitamin A peel, or quick-peel if you’re short on time.

Who are peels good for?

Peels are great for anyone who is looking to turn back the clock and achieve smoother, more youthful skin. Not only do these treatments help to refresh your appearance, but they can also work wonders on sun-damaged, aged, or uneven skin. Fine lines, wrinkles, thick, coarse or glycated skin, acne scarring, and passive hyperpigmentation can all benefit from the exfoliating and rejuvenating effects of face skin peels.

Who are peels not so good for?

Unfortunately, peels aren’t for everyone and there are some caution points worth bearing in mind. If you have a skin condition like inflamed acne or particularly oily skin, a face peel might not be for you. Those who have chronic cold sores or herpes should also take care, as should those on certain medication or with autoimmune disorders. If you are dealing with depression, anxiety, or mental illness, we also suggest skipping the peel. The muscle-banding process that occurs as part of the peel treatment, along with the need to stay indoors and out of sunlight whilst your skin undergoes the peeling process, can exacerbate these conditions. Though face peels can work wonders, it’s important to mention to your skin therapist in your initial skin analysis if you fall into any of these categories.

How do I prepare my skin for a face peel?

Individuals wanting to undergo our 6-layer peel, need to ensure their skin is in tip-top condition prior to having their facial peel treatment. First off, you’ll need to come in for a skin consultation, so we can assess your skin and get to know any particular skin concerns you’re experiencing. We’ll then determine if a peel is right for you.

All clients wanting to undergo a face peel treatment will need a minimum of two enzyme treatments, but preferably 3-6 treatments, prior to their peel. This ensures the skin is in optimum condition for the peel process.

You’ll also be equipped with an at-home skincare routine and homecare products to prep and prime your skin pre-peel, for a minimum of 10 days prior to your peel. This will include products designed to hydrate and revise any underlying skin conditions that can prevent the peel from working its best. Your routine will not only include a package of products from our DMK Skincare range, along with SPF (of course!), but also supplements - including essential fatty acids and our relax supplement to help prepare your body from the inside out. Be sure to also keep your body hydrated with at least 2 litres of water/day.

What can I expect from a facial skin peel procedure?

After you’ve prepped and primed the skin, it’s time for you to discover the skin peel facial journey:

Day 1 – Let the layers begin! We’ll apply the 6-layer mask, in our luxurious Gold Coast skin clinic. You’ll need to leave the peel on for 8-12 hours. Be warned – you’ll likely experience a hot, burning sensation during application, and this continues for the duration the peel is on – so it’s important you can stay home, in a cool environment, and avoid hot activities such as saunas and activities.

Day 2 – You’ll return to our Tugun clinic for the application of more layers – for a deeper peel. Everything you need to do and avoid as described in day 1, still applies here, and for the 8-12 hours your peel will remain on.

Days 3-5 – Come into the clinic on day 3 for a calming LED light therapy treatment, and relax! Days 3-5 is when the magic happens and you’ll start to peel.

Days 5-6 – Rejuvenate with an Enzyme Masque Liftoff treatment. Your skin will still shed dead skin throughout days 6-10, however, this peel process is not as significant as the original peel.

Day 10-11 – It's time for the second Enzyme Masque Liftoff treatment. Get ready to reveal that fresh, radiant glow!

You can find more info here on our packages here. Don’t have the budget for that right now, but still want all the benefits? Take a look at our DMK Peel membership options.
