Improve your skin with LED Light Therapy

Skin shines bright and sometimes brightest when you combine LED light therapy with other skin treatments. In this blog, we will explore why this is the case, what can be achieved with LED light therapy, and how this type of treatment is fast and effective. Making it a simple choice to include LED light therapy within your skin care routines and Skin From Within facials, to make them work harder and give you better results sooner.  Let’s dive in!

How LED Light Therapy Works

LED facials use light therapy to improve the appearance of the skin. The light in this facial type penetrates deep into the skin, encouraging collagen production and cell turnover. This can help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots and create firmer, smoother-looking skin.

During an LED facial, your therapist will apply different light colours to your face, depending on the skin concerns you want to address. Each colour is said to offer different benefits:

🔴Red light is most commonly used to treat wrinkles and fine lines.

🔵Blue light is often used to treat acne by reducing inflammation and killing bacteria.

🟡Yellow light is said to help with redness and pigmentation.

🟢Green light is thought to help reduce the appearance of dark spots.

Benefits of LED Light Therapy

LED Light therapy is an easy, pain-free way to bring a little extra glow to your week. And because the LED lights are positioned to penetrate the skin in the right way, it doesn’t take long to have an effect, and it’s an excellent add-on treatment to an existing facial because of its wide range of parallel benefits for a variety of skin conditions.

After your LED Light session, skin looks brighter and smoother, with a significant reduction in the appearance of fine lines and freckles. But that’s not all the benefits!

Boosts collagen production

One of the most popular uses for LED light therapy is to boost collagen production. Collagen is a protein that helps to keep skin looking firm and youthful. Our body's natural collagen production slows down as we age, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. However, exposure to LED light can help to stimulate collagen production, resulting in firmer, smoother skin.

Fights free radicals & improves sun damaged skin

It’s fascinating; ultra-violet light ages the skin, while LED light helps it keep its youthful appearance.

We all know that too much sun can damage our skin, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. LED Light therapy helps to repair sun-damaged skin and rejuvenate other skin damage caused by free radicals, which are unstable molecules that cause cell impairment. As a result, LED light therapy can help to improve the tone and texture of sun-damaged skin and reduce pigmentation.

Quick, painless, and downtime-free

LED Light therapy is non-invasive, meaning zero pain during the treatment, and you can go about your daily activities right after an LED session. No one would know the difference… except for your glowing skin, of course! Because, yes, you can see results after just one treatment.

During the facial, a technician will apply a gel to your skin, which helps the light penetrate the skin and get to work. Protective eyeware is placed over your eyes and the LED lamp is positioned above your face at a safe distance, allowing you to simply lie back and relax.

Reduces Inflammation

In addition to increasing collagen production, LED light therapy can help reduce inflammation and redness by improving circulation and blood flow to the treatment area. This makes it an ideal treatment for rosacea and acne-prone skin. When combined with acne treatments LED light therapy can help reduce the healing time post-acne treatment.

Safe for all skin types - yes, even acne-prone skin!

There isn’t any skin type that can’t benefit from LED light therapy!  It can help soothe, calm and repair skin that has been impacted by acne, improving the appearance of your skin by killing bacteria on the face that forms more acne, and enhancing your skin’s texture affected by acne scarring by improving the look and feel of your skin as a result of the increased collagen production.

LED Light Therapy & Facial Treatments

Although LED Light therapy can be used independently, it can also maximise your time in the salon by combining it with other skin treatments such as facials, peels, and microdermabrasion, as it helps speed up the healing process, stimulates collagen production, and reduces inflammation when used in conjunction with other facial treatments. Let’s explore these types of treatments in more depth:
LED & Enzyme Therapy

When used together, these two treatments can help you achieve dramatic results. Your skin will look and feel firmer, smoother, and more youthful. In addition, combining LED and enzyme facials can help to speed up the results you see from each treatment. If you're looking for a facial that offers both results and relaxation, a combination of LED and enzyme therapy may be perfect for you.

LED & IPL

When these two treatments are combined, they can provide an even more effective acne treatment than either one alone. LED light therapy can help to kill acne-causing bacteria and reduce inflammation. It can also help to stimulate collagen production and reduce the appearance of acne scars. IPL treatments can also help to reduce inflammation and acne breakouts, by targeting the overactive sebaceous glands that produce excess oil.

LED & RF Skin Tightening

Want to boost your skin-confidence? Try combining LED & RF therapy to further reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. The two types of therapy work together to stimulate collagen production, resulting in firmer, smoother skin. In addition, combining these two treatments can also help speed up the results you see and improve the overall complexion of your skin.

LED & Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion uses fine crystals to buff away the outermost layer of skin, improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, and age spots. When used together, microdermabrasion and LED light therapy can provide a powerful anti-ageing treatment. The exfoliation from microdermabrasion encourages cell turnover, while the LED light helps to stimulate collagen production at a deeper cellular level.

LED & Skincare Products

Want to boost the benefits you’re getting from your skincare products? Apply your anti-ageing products, such as serums or creams, after your LED light therapy session to help speed up the results.

Is LED Light Therapy safe?

Whilst LED Light therapy is generally safe; there are still a few safety precautions to consider.

  1. Always have LED light therapy treatment administered by a professional skin therapist who can work with you to assess your overall skin goals and choose suitable therapeutics for your skin type and concerns.

  2. Apply SPF and anti-ageing products after LED light therapy - not before! Some ingredients may react adversely to exposure to light, and the SPF will block a range of light waves, reducing the effects of your treatment. Don’t forget to re-apply after your treatment and minimise sun exposure for 48 hours.

  3. Avoid photosynthesising medication that can increase your sensitivity to different light waves. Always check with your doctor before commencing treatment if you are on medication.

  4. You can choose to wear makeup after your LED light therapy or make the most of your natural glow. If you do choose to wear makeup, try and opt for lightweight mineral makeup.

LED light therapy could be the answer if you’re looking for a non-invasive treatment to improve your skin.
